God Vishnu is one of the three main gods (Trimurti) of Hinduism, along with Shiva and Brahma. Vishnu is known as the great ‘Preserver’ and he nurtures the universe around us. His celestial abode is in Vaikuntha, where he rests on the Adi Shesha, the King of Serpents. His wife is Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth.
Vishnu is known to preserve and maintain the balance between the good and evil in the world. Whenever evil increases in epic proportions, Vishnu descends to the world to defeat that evil and restore the world’s balance. The Dashavatara are the ten avataras (incarnations) that Vishnu had taken (or will take) to maintain the world order.
